Garnett, Kansas was the first stop for Houdini and the California Concert Company in late 1897. The company played at the Grand Opera House. Harry & Bess Houdini stayed at the Adam & Belle Bennett Cottage Hotel. There are many stories about Houdini's time in Garnett! Any information or photos regarding Houdini's stays in Garnett or of the opera house / hotels would be of great value to the book and research. Credit for any information or photos will be given in the book.
While traveling via train to Garnett, KS Harry & Bess Houdini were late changing trains. With multiple travel trunks and no help the train was going to leave them behind. Houdini decided to place himself on the tracks in front of the train! The train did stop and allow them to place their belongings (including the Metamorphosis trunk) on the train and proceed to Garnett.
